The Warmth of Red

Attention Getting- Vibrant, cheery and cozy can all be used to describe the color red.

Blends well with the four seasons- Valentines Day, the 4th of July, fall foliage and Christmas colors all incorporate shades of red.

Pairs nicely with other colors around the home- red, white and blue, yellow and red, brown and red, green and red, blue and red, gray and red and white and red all complement each other throughout the year.

Warm and inviting- For me, red evokes emotions of love, warmth and coziness.

Easy to incorporate pops of red around the house- From floor mats, to towels, blankets, shower curtains, pillows, blankets, candles and more there are pops of red throughout our home.

Red Around the House

Incorporating red into our home wasn’t something that was intentionally sought out by me.  But as I was looking for room by room, I noticed pops of red everywhere!  I keep our wall coverings in neutral shades because of my love of seasonal decorating.  Splashes of red bring in a warm, inviting and cozy atmosphere.

Here in the upper Midwest, we have four defined seasons, even if the winter feels like it takes up six months out of the year.  Decorating for different times of year is a fun way to embrace the changes.  From Valentines Day to the 4th of July, to the beautiful hues of Autumn and of course moving into Christmas, red is the perfect color for all the seasons.

Red pairs nicely with other colors throughout the home.  This time of year, with the 4th of July just around the corner, the combination of red, white and blue can be seen everywhere.  Our home is no exception!  Red and yellow, red and brown, red and green, red and blue, red and white all can be found throughout our home.

Warm and inviting are words to describe the color red.  Perhaps my sons beds and my husband and I all wrap around a warm, plush red blanket when we lay our heads to sleep at night.  We have had these blankets for at least 10 years, and they are still going strong.  These blankets are so cozy, and I still love the color after all these years.  Admittedly, my mother-in-law graciously patched a couple of torn spots on our blanket last year.  Our dogs love laying on it too!

Pops of red can be seen throughout almost every room of our property.  For some reason I gravitate towards it.  From the red candlesticks on top of my mantle in the dining room, to the red pillows that fill my brown couch this medium hue can be found.  Similarly, red towels, a red and white checked sink curtain and well-worn oven mitts along with a red accent wall can be detected.  Furthermore, red is mixed in with other colors in our checked shower curtain in the bathroom.  As mentioned before, a big beautiful red blanket covers our bed.

As for the outside, red geraniums, impatiens and petunias fill containers throughout.  We even have cherry red Adirondack chairs outside of our new blue shed in the back.  As for the inside of the shed, there is a plush red sofa just waiting to be decorated once we get the inside finished.

I really love red!  Colonial red, cherry red, burgundy and the many shades in between are beautiful. They are cozy, warm and inviting.  What do you think? Do you like to place splashes of red throughout your home too?
