Outdoor Fall Decor Ideas

As enjoyable as it is filling our home with seasonal fall touches, walking outside among the fall foliage is what I most look forward to this time of year.  Collecting leaves, pinecones, hydrangeas and pumpkins grown in our garden brings a smile to my face every time.  It truly is the simple things in life, when appreciated, that bring the most happiness.

Fall Front Deck Foliage

The rustic red planter always gets a fall makeover after the summer blooms finally fade out.  An old, weathered birdhouse and pale-yellow mums grace this simple space.  Above hangs a twig wreath filled with dried hydrangeas and a bird nest long left behind.  Bright yellow mums nestled in a white ceramic pot next to a brown wicker chair has become my favorite place to sip on my morning cup of coffee.

Back Deck Delight

green planter

Many years ago, I purchased this rustic green picket fence garden planter at a small local gift shop.  I am always on the hunt for unique pieces that can easily be changed out with the seasons.  This stand definitely does not disappoint!

This fall, I started out with an old picnic basket as the focal point.  Filling it with these gorgeous pale orange mums is simple yet stunning.  Adding mini white pumpkins on each side and placing another stick wreath above with dried hydrangeas round out the look.  As the season spreads out, dried leaves and pinecones from our property will be slowly added.

Gardens Galore

new garden

Our main perennial garden got a major makeover this fall as two of our beloved apple trees fell to the ground.  Filling this space with maintenance free shrubs is calming as the perennials were getting hard to manage.  I look forward to adding seasonal elements to this space as the shrubs begin to bush out.  For this year, a small metal pumpkin sign and a couple of fun pumpkins will have to do.

Ferns with flowers, mums in an old small red wheelbarrow, a metal sunflower sign and cornstalks towering over our whitewashed gate spread more fall cheer throughout our property.  These simple touches are easy to incorporate and inexpensive as well.

Maple Tree Magic

Maple Tree

Many years ago, when buying this property, we were impressed with the numerous mature maple trees lining the front yard.  Through the years we have slowly added many new trees: a beautiful red oak, red maples and my favorite orange maple nestled in our mini woods.

This mighty maple was planted as a small sapling over 18 years ago.  It is always the last of our trees to show off its amazing fall colors.  Every year, with leaves crunching underfoot, I gather these lovely light-colored leaves.  They get pressed and dried to display on the Thanksgiving table.

Gratitude for all of God’s glory shown in natural elements around our small property abounds.  From the numerous hydrangea bushes, piles of pinecones and colorful leaves just waiting to be gathered, it is truly a time to be thankful.  Taking time to appreciate what is all around us makes the season even more special.

What about you? What simple fall treasures bring you joy this season?
