Why make your own room spray?
- Easy and Economical– This seriously only takes minutes to assemble and is easy on the pocketbook.
Minimal Supplies– With under 5 items needed it is so simple to throw together.
Toxic Free, Chemical Free– All natural ingredients make this very safe for the entire home. No synthetic fragrances here!
Fun and Versatile– With so many different essential oil scents to choose from many seasonal options abound.
Gone are the days when I walk into a store filled with soaps, lotions and strong seasonal scents filling the air. As much as I still enjoy gazing from afar at the pretty displays, the strong scents overwhelm me. First, I feel it nasally. Then it goes down into my throat. Chemicals and I just don’t pair well together. A similar reaction occurs when I walk through a detergent aisle at the grocery store.
For this reason, and more, I have transitioned a lot of personal care products and home cleaning products into more natural DIY ones. For me, and my family, the benefits far outweigh the negatives.
First of all, this DIY spray is easy and economical to put together. The supplies are easy to find and go a long way because they are so concentrated. Assembling this takes 10 minutes max, including collecting the supplies.
Also, the cost savings are substantial. No more buying expensive room sprays from the store. Once purchased, the glass bottle is reusable. Similarly, the witch hazel and essential oils last a long time, as only a few drops are needed for each refill.
As mentioned, minimal supplies are needed for this project. I use a 4-ounce brown or blue tinted glass jar, witch hazel, essential oils, a small funnel and water. You can’t beat the simplicity!
I am always looking for practical ways to reduce toxins in my environment. Thankfully, I have control over what comes into my home. The only ingredients needed for this room spray are witch hazel and 100% pure essential oils.
Witch hazel, which can be purchased at any Walmart or Walgreens, is an all-natural extract derived from the leaves, bark, and twigs of the flowering shrub Hamamelis virginiana. It has medicinal properties high in the beneficial compounds of tannins, polyphenols, and flavonoids.
The other key ingredient used is 100% pure essential oils. Many essential oils contain natural antimicrobial and antiviral properties that can reduce airborne bacteria and viruses, contributing to a healthier home environment. Spraying or diffusing oils into the air help to naturally eliminate odors and purify the air, which is a much safer alternative to synthetic air fresheners.
Last, but not least, making your own room sprays is fun and versatile. I like to have several bottles throughout our home for a quick room to pick up. They are especially useful in the kitchen and bathroom, for obvious reasons. I also keep one in my bedroom and our back porch.
It is fun to assemble different scents for the different seasons. Think clove, cinnamon spice for fall, pine for winter, lemon for spring and lavender for summer. The options are endless.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy as the saying goes. This truly is a satisfying and simple spray that comes together in minutes, saving both time and money. What simple scents can you put together today?
