Cool! Crisp! Calm! As the days are beginning to grow darker earlier and the weather is showing signs of readying itself for winter it is time to bring in all the cozy warm elements that make the fall season so special. Blending faux and real touches bring in beauty throughout the dining room.
Mantle Magic
It is truly a delight to decorate our dining room seasonally. One of my favorite areas to focus on is the faux fireplace mantle. This year, brown and white tones found their way to this area. Starting out, I displayed a realistic looking twig garland with pinecones. Tucking in some dried baby’s breath brings extra texture and nature to the piece.
Enjoying the brown and white color scheme I decided to carry it onto the mantle top as well. Filling rustic-looking vases with more dried baby’s breath and shopping from stored fall bins brought the look together easily. The final cozy touch was adding battery operated jarred candles and string lights. The soft glow on these dark fall days really brightens up this space.
Bookshelf balance
Alongside the faux fireplace, on each side, stand the beadboard whitewashed bookshelves that we have had for over 25 years. Adding a stuffed pumpkin atop a weathered brown chest with faux leaves scattered about is a fun way to bring in a whimsical feel. On the other side, placing a few stuffed pumpkins in a mini wooden glass house surrounded by faux foliage balances out the bookshelves.
Cabinet charm
Next, is the whitewashed beadboard cabinet along the wall that houses our home office supplies. It is such a blessing to have a place to store/hide our printer, paper, computers etc. At the end of the day, everything gets tucked away and the doors close. This year, I was inspired by the dried green hydrangeas collected from my garden. Placing them in a vintage basket with a floral painted sage pumpkin next to it is pretty and simple. The oversized Thankful sign is a daily visual reminder to live a life of gratitude.
tabletop simplicity
Last, but not least, is the large dining room table that is undoubtedly the focal point of the room. This year, due to our apple tree disaster, we have an abundance of tiny apples to decorate with. The simple tablescape of apples in tin pails placed in my favorite whitewashed wooden box is just the right touch for the table. A tan burlap runner underneath a plain stained board completes the natural
Each piece in the dining room tells a story of seasons changing, memories being made, and the warmth of a happy home. As fall gently settles in, these small touches remind us to slow down and find beauty in simplicity.
